We Were All Young Once #1

This is the inaugural post of what we mean to become a semi-regular occurrence on MGTW.
Apparently, we were all young once.
Perhaps some of us still are.

Instead of telling you about the band, which you can easily read about via the provided link, I'm going to tell you how this band and their songs happened into my life. That goes for any further posts made under We Were All Young Once as well.

A few years back I decided I wanted to discover some new music on the internet (just as you may be doing at this very moment) and I dug about on various informative sites, clicked some links, and followed hunches until I'd rounded up an assortment of bands and tracks. I then burned a cd worth of tracks etc, etc...

One of the bands I scrounged up was Pedro The Lion.
I found that cd in a box a couple weeks back and uploaded these two songs for you.
Indian Summer (quite appropriate for this time of year) is originally off their Control album, whereas A Mind of Her Own comes from Winners Never Quit. Enjoy.

MGTW Presents: The Virgin Space Cadets

Here in Victoria there is a lovely, sometimes raucous, often introverted scene of music. Everyone has their projects, big or small, that they pour all manner of creativity, doubt, aggression, nerdiness, ego, and skill into.
I wish I had time to catch every basement show, cd release or free warehouse party that comes along, but even in the cute lil Garden City there's a lot going on.

May I introduce to you, The Virgin Space Cadets.

These fine young chaps have played their collective space techno hearts out all over Victoria and over in Vancouver as well.
Experiencing a Cadets show is a bit of a journey. It can be echoey, sometimes jarring, but almost always groove worthy. Enjoy their myspace provided musical stylings and I'll do my best to get my paws on some tracks for dwnld.

Ruskoctober!

Just 11 short days after I move from my little island capital to the biggest city in Western Canada, Chris Mercer, an English dubstep DJ who plays under the moniker Rusko will be hitting Shine in Vancouver on October 11th. I fully realize that this show isn't for a nearly two months. That's how excited I am!
Rusko is among an unfinished list of top jockeys that I've been pining to see. Below I'll breakdown a few tracks of his that will completely burn your barn.

This first track is a new one to my ears. It seems to follow a galactic rasta vibe. I especially enjoy the laser fx and accompanying dub-head sound bytes as it chugs along at a pleasing pace.
Rusko - Mr. Chips

The remix for 'Pro Nails' by Kid Sister totally flips the song on it's ear and was my royal introduction to his insane production work. Though it has aged some in this ever-changing fast paced go-go world, it's still undoubtedly fine.
Kid Sister - Pro Nails (Rusko Remix)

Re-imagining an old NES theme in the form of a jaw dropping dub step track is the easiest way for one to become my new messiah. This remix has it all, including some sense-able sized drops, and a double up on the beat halfway through the song that allows growth.

Countdown to Shambhala - Boy 8-Bit

For my final installment of the Countdown I've waited to highlight a DJ that I'm arguably the most excited for. The Boy.

Named?
David Morris------Boy 8-Bit

From? London, England

His music? It's club music. With a beat. Dancing music. Good dancing music. You do/will like it.

So... A high profile residency. Stellar original productions. Top notch remixes.
Releases on Southern Fried, Mad Decent, and Trouble & Bass to name a few.

It's going to be seriously ridiculous. Seriously.

In fact, Fractal Forest in general is going to be totally bananas.
Word.
